In collaboration with Andrew Steinke and Neil Haque
The capstone project of my academic career. We designed a welcome centre for current students and alumni, this building is a hub for academic and student services
During preliminary design we recieved a building program and created bubble diagrams to layout each floor, and did sketches and mass modeling in forma until we landed on a shape.
We then completed a project proposal where we identified our main goals,
01. Accessibility for all
02. Sustainable Design
03. Indigenous Representation.
A big idea we had for our design was to "bring the campus into a new era," representing RRC Polytechs innovation.
We used a more tradional brick veneer on the north side to connect with the adacent buildings, and a modern aluminum panel cladding on the south.
We added a river motif with tyndall stone block in the brickwork, and curved the aluminum panels in the shape of the forks where the two cladding types met.
We decided to focus on open, barrier free circulation in this project, leading us to place the round room auditorium as a central core of the space with open corridors flowing around it.
